When Wicklow based Enda Kelly walked into a camera shop in Dublin and a 90mm astromaster caught his eye, it changed his life forever, quickly finding out that he was "gonna need a bigger 'scope'". Moving quickly from taking shaky moon shots with his phone hovering over the eyepiece to capturing stunning images of the planets with a C11 and a DSLR, Enda quickly bit the bullet and invested in an astrocam.
From the moment he first glimpsed Saturn in the eyepiece, he was hooked and never looked back, knowing he was going to pursue the best images he could get of the planets from Ireland.
That was 5 short years ago, prior to which he couldn't tell you in which part of the sky one thing rose or another, or what some of the objects even were!
"For me it all started by pointing my dslr up at the sky, without a tripod, resting it on the oil tank at the back of my house and just shooting to see what I could see!"

Despite living by the coast, Enda has incredible views out to the east as the planets rise and set in the west, transiting a pretty dark Bortle 3.5-4 sky in his neck of the woods.
Further south in Wicklow, and with the right setup, Enda has been able to capture stunning images of our cosmos which he then uses to study astronomy even more, diving deeper, and deeper into the medium both online, and offline!
Enda's incredible Lunar images have won him some awards too! He was selected as one of the DIAS winners for his incredible Half Moon shot in 2024, pictured here at the awards event in Dublin.
